A friend posted on Facebook about withdrawing support from Susan G. Komen for their withholding funds from Planned Parenthood. This is a very visible friend with many followers. I invited him to inquire privately why I would now support Komen. I hoped he would be fairminded enough to do so.

He did. He explained that his sister died from breast cancer, and he had supported research ever since. I explained that it was not good that women lost opportunities for screening, but that it opened opportunities for other organizations to step in. I also explained that our infertility also made me value each tiny life, no matter how inconvenient.

We agreed to agree on some things and disagree on others.

I give him credit for seeking me out. Too often these discussions turn into screaming matches. I wonder though, how many ugly remarks I will have to withstand by morning, from people who read my comment. Part of me wanted to wimp out and delete it. But I am going to leave it and see what happens.
